Tammy Duckworth

by: David Dayen

Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 19:07:01 PM PDT

She ran a wooden campaign that was drastically overfunded at the expense of some of our great candidates (including Charlie Brown), but she's giving a decent speech here about veteran's issues and Obama's commitment to military families.  She was actually an Obama constituent when she was injured in Iraq, and she told of how he visited her in the hospital without fanfare.  McCain's positions on veteran's issues are really awful.

I have to say that I like this night of speeches.  The reason that convention bounces are shrinking is because media coverage of convention speeches at the expense of bullshit issues is shrinking.  But this has been a good night thus far.

Biden is coming right up.

Tammy Duckworth for Senate (0.00 / 0)
I'd like to see Tammy Duckworth be appointed to the senate to replace Barack Obama once he is elected president.

Duckworth's Campaign (0.00 / 0)
I was there for the last week and a half, and it seemed to me that Duckworth ran a reasonably good campaign.  What ultimately sunk them was a sub-par media strategy that wasn't enough to overcome the bile directed against her.  The area is very conservative outside of Cook County, which includes Chicago and is union-heavy but is only a corner of the district.  The race had incredible volunteer support, several hundred over the final weekend, but it wasn't enough to do the job.  People were beyond sick of hearing about the election.  Maybe overall strategy and messaging wasn't the best, but they did everything we would want on the ground, including heavy guidance from Durbin and Obama folks.
