No on 8: Another Weekend Challenge

by: Be_Devine

Fri Oct 10, 2008 at 09:34:27 AM PDT

(W00t! We made the $2500 Challenge on Be_Devine's Match Page alone, with plenty of time to spare.  But don't let that stop you from giving to the great campaigns on our Calitics ActBlue page. - promoted by Brian Leubitz)

UPDATE by Brian Leubitz: This is working, and I don't want to cut people off. So, the Calitics CaliPAC will match up to another $1,500. You can donate on either the page below or on the Calitics ActBlue Page.  Keep giving folks, we need it.  And while you are at the Calitics ActBlue Page, you might want to think about dropping a few bucks for the Campaign for Teen Safety, No on Prop 4.

We need to step up the fundraising for No on Prop 8, so it's time for another weekend challenge.

I will match all contributions up to $1,000 through Sunday.

Use this page to contribute to the challenge.  The money goes directly to Equality for All.

Economic times are tough, I know. But this is important. There are fewer than four weeks left before the election. We're down in the polls and the Yes Campaign is taking in bags of money from bigots in other states who think they should be allowed to decide who Californians are and are not allowed to marry.

Spread the word and make me pay.

We all need to do what we can. (7.00 / 3)
I'm in for $100 and I wish I could give more. We Californians need to step up and do what's right; I'm furious at the thought that so many of us might support writing intolerance  right into our constitution.

Thank you for matching my contribution. :)

I was push polled by Western Wats (7.00 / 3)
Western Wats, a Utah company, is push polling for yes on 8. They asked me questions like "Am I concerned about the required teaching of homosexuality in the public schools without parental approval" or that our kids would be taught about gay sex.

Also the questions seemed to imply that this could happen if prop 8 failed.

I told them they should go back and read the bible instead of preaching hate and made an immediate donation to No on 8. That made me feel better.

please contact TPM (0.00 / 0)
they've been following Western Wats and they'd like to hear about this.

Donated what I could (8.00 / 1)
It wasn't much, but I'm glad to donate to a matching fund.

I'm heartsick about this. My husband and I have been married for almost four months, and this damned proposition could strip us of that.

I'm in for 200 (6.50 / 2)
The Best Man at my wedding has the right to a marriage that gets the same respect as mine

sorry it took so long (5.00 / 1)
I know four people who just got married.  Here's to toasting their unions again on November 4th.  Nothing can rescind that joy.

A smart guy I know said, worst case scenario, if they overturn the Court's decision it will catalyze the federal effort, as it did with racial justice.  But that won't do, I don't want to lose.

Disclosure: Union staff, former staff for Manuel Perez, elected DSCC delegate for 80th AD, board of Democrats of the Desert

Prop 8 ... (0.00 / 0)
... is another reason that out-of-state money in California elections should be illegal.  Something else to work on for the next election.

Meanwhile let's knock this thing down (along with knocking down a few others including Props 4, 10, and 11)

In for $100 ... (0.00 / 0)
Thank you for matching my modest contribution.

Wish I could donate (0.00 / 0)
but unfortunately I am flat broke and unemployed, and I am not even in California!

I did find a rare bright spot in these dismal days, though. It would have been cool to do this. And I am so happy the kids are being exposed to it also. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/...
