This Weekend In California Activism

I haven’t done one of these for a while, but I decided that maybe I should give some more notice. So here are a few things going on this weekend around the state. I’m obviously heavy on SF stuff, so let me know about more events in the comments.

  • On Saturday morning, the SF Tenants Union is organizing a voter reg drive for tenants in the Mission.  From Paul Hogarth’s Comment:

The San Francisco Tenants Union will be registering tenants to vote on Saturday — in order to help defeat Prop 98!! Come to the SFTU office at 558 Capp Street (@ 21st Street) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and we’ll hit the streets.  We’ll be registering people at BART stations and at apartment buildings.

  • Progressive Reading Series in SF. It’s a really cool event where some local authors will read some of their work at the Makeout Room for a good cause. This time, it’s to support the No on 98 Efforts to Save Rent Control. Yay! Facebook Event Page here. You should totally come. I’ll be there, and I’ll try to drag other Brian to what will be a fun evening.
  • If you are in the Ontario/Fontana area, call your Congressman Joe Baca and tell him to protect the 4th Amendment and the Constitution against Bush’s slash and burn games he’s trying to play on FISA. Apparently, Mr. Baca is wavering.  Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif. — Phone: (202) 225-6161, Fax: (202) 225-8671
  • Debbie Cook, the Mayor of Huntington Beach, is running against Dana “Taliban are not terrorists” Rohrabacher. She has a pre-website here. Mad props if you contact her office and ask her how you can help.
  • Got anything for this list? Post it in the Comments!
