While I’m not a fan of some things<\/a> that Equality California could probably have been done better, lobbying and legislative work is really their strong suit.<\/p>\n

Well, right now the gang at EQCA are focusing on Mark Leno’s Harvey Milk Day bill.  It’s been passed by both houses of the Legislature, but is currently awaiting the Governor’s up or down.<\/p>\n

He vetoed the bill last year, but EQCA is pushing to reverse that.  In his veto message, he said that Milk was a local figure. Things have clearly changed since then. Specifically, Milk was the subject of a major motion picture and the recipient of the Presidential Medal Freedom<\/a>. Perhaps it will become clear to Arnold what progressives, and the LGBT community in particular, has known since Milk’s assasination: Harvey Milk is more than a local celebrity who was murdered. <\/p>\n

Harvey Milk is a symbol of the fight for civil rights for all Americans. He is a symbol of equality. He should be honored as such.<\/p>\n
