Other governors worked with the unions rather than simply imposing the furloughs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Meanwhile, the LA City Council <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/careers\/work\/la-me-la-budget17-2009sep17,0,7804649.story\">approved additional layoffs and furloughs<\/a> for city staff. &nbsp;The controversial early-retirement plan is still under discussion.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 During a press conference today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/blogs\/nov05election\/detail?blogid=14&#038;entry_id=47822\">Speaker Pelosi teared up a bit<\/a> on a thought of the events of 1978 in San Francisco. At the time, Pelosi was a Democratic activist with close relationships to the the political families of SF.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rep. Maxine Waters (D), made the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crewsmostcorrupt.org\/\">CREW Most Corrupt list<\/a>, a dubious honor indeed. The House will be investigating her relationship with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/nation\/la-na-waters-ethics17-2009sep17,0,1271818.story\">OneUnited Bank&#8217;s federal bailout funds<\/a>. Her husband sat on the board and had invested $350,000 in the bank. &nbsp;Given the way the Treasury was giving away bailout money last year, this seems like some pretty weak sauce.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The BBC reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/technology\/8258119.stm\">Silicon Valley is seeing a revival<\/a>, due to mergers and more VC spending. &nbsp;One thing not mentioned by the Valley boosters &#8211; unemployment in the region still hovers close to 12%. &nbsp;When they start hiring, we can talk about recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Love supermajorities? Well, you&#8217;ll really dig on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibabuzz.com\/politics\/2009\/09\/16\/pge-doubles-down-again-vs-local-energy-choice\/\">PG&#038;E&#8217;s latest scheme<\/a>: an initiative to require a 2\/3 vote for community choice aggregation by municipalities.
