{"id":10252,"date":"2009-10-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-10T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-10-10T02:51:49","modified_gmt":"2009-10-10T02:51:49","slug":"october-9-open-thread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/2009\/10\/10\/october-9-open-thread\/","title":{"rendered":"October 9 Open Thread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I (Brian) am sitting here in San Francisco, being rather incessantly buzzed by the Blue Angels, but I&#8217;m sure it will be a lovely weekend of this. &nbsp;The Links!<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 As of this afternoon, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/static\/weblogs\/capitolalertlatest\/026102.html?mi_rss=Capitol%20Alert\">nobody expected a water deal to be hammered out<\/a>. &nbsp;Does this mean a mass veto of the entire 2009 session? &nbsp;Darrell Steinberg still calls that possibility a &#8220;sideshow.&#8221; &nbsp;Meanwhile, instead of doing his job and signing bills the Governor <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Schwarzenegger\/status\/4746115411\">hung out at a Latino Water Coalition rally<\/a> today, without bothering to disclose that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitolweekly.net\/article.php?xid=ybopgxc5lelik7\">he invented the Latino Water Coalition<\/a> out of whole cloth.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/articles\/norby-faher-years-2601123-ackerman-fullerton\">Martin Wicksol of the OC Register likes<\/a> the unknown Richard Faher as a stalking horse for Linda Ackerman, the wife of longtime OC political kingpin Dick Ackerman. The argument seems a teensy bit weak, mostly because in order to be a stalking horse you need to have some profile to gather votes. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 California&#8217;s exports are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/business\/story\/2242946.html?mi_rss=Business\">down for the 10th straight month<\/a>. &nbsp;While some are saying there are green shoots, there are still a lot of sickly plants out there in the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Fighting global warming would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibabuzz.com\/politics\/2009\/10\/07\/study-california-saves-by-fighting-global-warming\/\">save the state $100 billion in Gross State Product<\/a> and create 112,000. &nbsp;Of course, the Yacht Party will tell us that such policies are job-killers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Jerry Brown is not troubled by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/static\/weblogs\/capitolalertlatest\/026108.html?mi_rss=Capitol%20Alert\">Governor&#8217;s horsetrading on 700 bills for a water deal<\/a>.
