Jerry Brown&#8217;s proposed tax increase extensions before voters, even if Democrats agree to overhaul the state&#8217;s pension system and enact a spending cap, the Senate&#8217;s top Republican said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Bob Dutton of Rancho Cucamonga, in an interview with The Bee Capitol Bureau, said Democrats should prepare an all-cuts budget to erase the $26.6 billion budget deficit. He said Republicans may or may not provide votes for that approach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They really don&#8217;t need us to govern at all,&#8221; Dutton said of the Democrats who control both legislative houses and can make cuts by majority vote. &#8220;They just need us if they want to raise taxes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dutton said the &#8220;day of reckoning&#8221; has come to California after repeated budget deficits.(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/2011\/02\/17\/3409617\/dutton-says-senate-republicans.html#ixzz1EFbt7zBx\">SacBee<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already seen what a no-taxes budget looks like, and frankly, there is no way that the California electorate would support it. &nbsp;So, hey, maybe he should just get the votes to put that on the ballot. &nbsp;See how the voters of of California take to massive cuts to K-12 spending.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there are <a href=\"https:\/\/calitics.com\/diary\/13043\/twothirds-or-not-two-thirds-that-is-the-question\">other ways to get these measures on the ballot<\/a>.
