{"id":13168,"date":"2011-02-21T21:25:04","date_gmt":"2011-02-21T21:25:04","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-02-21T21:25:04","modified_gmt":"2011-02-21T21:25:04","slug":"a-burgeoning-consensus-on-redevelopment-agencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/2011\/02\/21\/a-burgeoning-consensus-on-redevelopment-agencies\/","title":{"rendered":"A Burgeoning Consensus on Redevelopment Agencies?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I went through today&#8217;s California news clips, one thing is gradually becoming clear. &nbsp;Despite the resistance of cities across the state, Jerry Brown has the upper hand on the redevelopment fight at this point.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to a very insightful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calbuzz.com\/2011\/02\/the-case-for-why-redevelopment-must-go\/\">CalBuzz column on redevelopment<\/a>, George Skelton &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-cap-redevelopment-20110221,0,4914154.column\">also politely hinted that it is time to usher them out the door<\/a>. &nbsp;Oh, and there&#8217;s also the fact that cities are shoveling as much of that money as they possibly can into projects hastily pushed through. &nbsp;In San Diego, they are desperately trying to get a new stadium for the Chargers with redevelopment money, and if Santa Clara can&#8217;t get <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/southbayfootball\/ci_17439143\">money for the 49ers<\/a>, well, they just might have to stay in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>This is far from any sort of hard fact, as a whole consortium of city and county organizations are continuing to fight the closure of the redevelopment agencies. &nbsp;But, Jerry might just have been too darn slick on this one. &nbsp;I mean, who can really argue that redevelopment agencies are more important than K-12?
