{"id":13174,"date":"2011-02-23T05:49:19","date_gmt":"2011-02-23T05:49:19","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-02-23T05:49:42","modified_gmt":"2011-02-23T05:49:42","slug":"march-8-los-angeles-election-progressive-voter-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/2011\/02\/23\/march-8-los-angeles-election-progressive-voter-guide\/","title":{"rendered":"March 8 Los Angeles Election Progressive Voter Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.couragecampaign.org\/MarchVoterGuide\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.couragecampaign.org\/page\/-\/LA2001VoterGuideButton.jpg\" align=right width=250><\/a>Well, it may not have the same national attention as the impending <strike>coronation<\/strike> election of Rahm Emmanuel as the next Mayor of Chicago, but Los Angeles has an election coming up in two weeks. &nbsp;There are many interesting races, including the fascinating races between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcet.org\/shows\/socal_connected\/undertheinfluence\/labor\/bernard-parks-vs-the-unions.html\">Bernard Parks and Forescee Hogan-Rowles in CD8<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scpr.org\/news\/2011\/02\/10\/la-city-council-race-features-two-former-friends\/\">former reality TV host Rudy Martinez taking on incumbent Jose Huizar in CD14<\/a>, but as is often the case, the ballot measures often get very little attention. &nbsp;Unfortunately, that&#8217;s kind of the way it is with local elections.<\/p>\n<p>So, what&#8217;s a good progressive voter to do? Well, the Courage Campaign, in a project that I helped out with, has now released their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.couragecampaign.org\/MarchVoterGuide\">March 8 LA Progressive Voter Guide<\/a>. &nbsp;In it you&#8217;ll find recommendations from the Courage Campaign, the LA Democratic Party, as well as other progressive organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The turnout on this election is going to be simply abysmal, so it is imperative that progressive voters turn out. &nbsp;So, get informed, and be sure to vote on March 8.<\/p>\n<p><b>NOTE<\/b>: <i>I&#8217;ll admit it, I&#8217;m a local ballot measure nerd. &nbsp;So, in addition to helping out the Courage Campaign with this project, I also worked with Yes on Measure L on their online presence. &nbsp;Both projects were complementary, but were very independent of each other.<\/i><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Eric Garcetti is a Courage Campaign member and President of the Los Angeles City Council.
