{"id":13502,"date":"2011-05-18T20:23:02","date_gmt":"2011-05-18T20:23:02","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-05-18T20:23:02","modified_gmt":"2011-05-18T20:23:02","slug":"this-is-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/2011\/05\/18\/this-is-why\/","title":{"rendered":"This is Why"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fortunately for us, the California Budget Project is doing a lot of the hard work of documenting some of the impacts of the massive cuts we&#8217;ve had over the last few years. &nbsp;And unsurprisingly, the cuts have really been painful for the poor especially.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The nonpartisan California Budget Project last week <a href=\"http:\/\/cbp.org\">issued fact sheets on recent cuts<\/a> to programs that give stipends to the poor and disabled, families going from welfare to work and a health insurance program for needy kids.<\/p>\n<p>Jean Ross, executive director of the project, said the idea came from one result of a Field Poll question showing that about half the state&#8217;s residents felt no impact from California budget cuts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were trying to document that there had been large cuts and large amounts of dollars lost,&#8221; Ross said. <\/p>\n<p>Her staff set out to examine how several programs were hit and how each county may have swaths of people struggling to cover costs. (<a href=\"http:\/\/californiawatch.org\/dailyreport\/state-revisits-budget-prior-cuts-hit-poor-disabled-10328\">California Watch<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The results? Well, the cuts to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbp.org\/pdfs\/2011\/110513_Impact_Healthy%20Families_Budget_Cuts.pdf\">healthy families program<\/a> have meant that 50,000 fewer children will have insurance.
