{"id":14666,"date":"2012-11-02T08:24:25","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T08:24:25","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2012-11-02T08:24:25","modified_gmt":"2012-11-02T08:24:25","slug":"bogus-mailer-i-received","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/2012\/11\/02\/bogus-mailer-i-received\/","title":{"rendered":"Bogus Mailer I received"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I received an interesting campaign mailer today, called the &#8220;California Public Safety Newsletter and Voter Guide&#8221;. &nbsp;It was interesting, in that it had some rather curious ballot initiative endorsements.<\/p>\n<p>The curious initiative endorsements are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No on 30<\/li>\n<li>Yes on 31<\/li>\n<li>Yes on 32<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are all the opposite of how the public safety unions in California look at those ballot initiatives. The &#8220;Yes on 32&#8221; one is particularly strange, considering it&#8217;s supposedly from public safety employees.<\/p>\n<p>There is a clue to who is really behind the mailer, in small print, where it says: &#8220;California Public Safety Voter Guide is a Special Project of the Policy Issues Institute&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Who are the &#8220;Policy Issues Institute&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>Well, they are a <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.sos.wa.gov\/charities\/search_detail.aspx?charity_id=24145\">501C4 &#8220;charity&#8221;<\/A>. &nbsp; They also operate under the names:<\/p>\n<p>Impeach Obama Campaign<br \/>\n<br \/>PII<br \/>\n<br \/>United States Investigative Unit<br \/>\n<br \/>White House Watch, The<\/p>\n<p>Who runs the &#8220;Policy Issues Institute&#8221;? &nbsp;A guy named <A HREF=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Floyd_Brown\">Floyd Brown<\/A>. &nbsp;Who is Floyd Brown? &nbsp;I was not familiar with the name, but the Wikipedia article has some interesting information on him. &nbsp;Some of his greatest &#8220;hits&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p>Creating the &#8220;Willy Horton&#8221; ad<br \/>\n<br \/>Co-founding &#8220;Citizens United&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/>pushed the bogus Whitewater &#8220;scandal&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/>a website called &#8220;ExposeObama.com&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/>At the bottom of the Wikipedia article, there are some amusing quotes about Brown:<\/p>\n<p>USA Today: &#8220;[Brown has] established himself as one of the nation&#8217;s dirtiest political strategists&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/>George Stephanopoulos: &#8220;Floyd Brown is a slimy thug for hire.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I think that last quote pretty much sums up this guy, and his &#8220;newsletter&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>[ cross-posted from Daily Kos ]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I received an interesting campaign mailer today, called the &#8220;California Public Safety Newsletter and Voter Guide&#8221;. &nbsp;It was interesting, in that it had some rather curious ballot initiative endorsements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2177,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[87],"tags":[630],"class_list":["post-14666","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-87","tag-630"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/p6Pvhz-3Oy","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14666","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2177"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=14666"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14666\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=14666"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=14666"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=14666"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
