It&#8217;s said to hold <a href=\"http:\/\/science.kqed.org\/quest\/audio\/with-large-oil-reserve-california-faces-fracking-debate\/\">more barrels than North Dakota&#8217;s Bakken Formation<\/a>. &#8220;several oil companies, including Venoco and Occidental, have reported they are experimenting in California&#8217;s shale formations.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Last week a convention was held on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infocastinc.com\/index.php\/conference\/californianoil12\">unlocking the Golden State&#8217;s shale resources<\/a>, billed as &#8220;Be Part of the Biggest Thing to Hit California Since the Gold Rush!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Today in Sacramento, the federal Bureau of Land Management is holding its first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blm.gov\/ca\/st\/en\/info\/newsroom\/2012\/december\/og_lease_auction_dec.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&#038;utm_medium=twitter\">auction<\/a> of 18,000 acres in Fresno, San Benito, and Monterey counties. A protest is being organized, complete with hazmat suits &#8211; you can <a href=\"http:\/\/action.biologicaldiversity.org\/p\/salsa\/event\/common\/public\/?event_KEY=76659\">RSVP here<\/a>. California state regulators have lost track of whether California is being fracked; when they do re-regulate, they probably <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/story\/2012\/11\/18\/1162829\/-The-California-Democratic-Party-All-Fracked-Up\">won&#8217;t track methane emissions at all<\/a>. California agricultural interests are concerned about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/171504\/fracking-our-food-supply#\">fracking our food supply<\/a>. An <a href=\"http:\/\/upwithchris.tumblr.com\/post\/37480989008\/a-new-study-by-federal-scientists-has-tied-the\">earthquake inducing<\/a>, water intensive process doesn&#8217;t seem like a good idea in an earthquake-prone, water-scarce state.
