Gil Cedillo has earned the endorsement of LA Police Chief Bill Bratton. &nbsp;Bratton is a respected voice, but precious little of the district is inside LA, so I am curious to see how much an endorsement like this will matter. &nbsp;Expect it to be right at the top of the mailers, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The ACLU of Southern California, the National Immigration Law Center and the Paul Hastings law firm have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-detention3-2009apr03,0,6866381.story\">filed suit in US District Court<\/a> against the inhumane conditions at immigration detention facilities in Los Angeles. &nbsp;Designed as a short-term processing center, detainees are often held for weeks, without access to counsel and in conditions described as &#8220;disgusting.&#8221; &nbsp;Hopefully they can get an injunction.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Allen Hoffenblum <a href=\"http:\/\/totalbuzz.freedomblogging.com\/2009\/04\/02\/analyst-surveys-the-decline-of-the-california-gop\/15143\/#more-15143\">teases out an interesting stat<\/a> and makes an apocaplyptic prediction about the present-day California GOP:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Republican (voter) registration is just going off the cliff in California,&#8221; he said. &#8220;There is not a single Assembly, state Senate or Congressional district that has a majority of Republicans. Some have a plurality, but none have 50 percent plus one. And it&#8217;s not people dying or moving out of state. They&#8217;re changing to decline to state [&#8230;] The party is in serious trouble,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s crumbling beneath their feet, and they&#8217;re out there trying to defeat more Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A dying party can&#8217;t beat the Democrats, so they fight among themselves. It&#8217;s what happens when parties become a cult.
