The SF School Board has been debating JROTC now for a couple decades. A few years

ago in light of the Iraq War and stories about how military recruitment targets the economically
\n
disenfranchised and people of color — brought to a mass audience thanks to Michael
\n
Moore’s “911” — the school board voted to phase it out.<\/p>\n
It will officially end this June.<\/p>\n
But Assemblyman Fiona Ma, now advised by WIllie Brown-Gavin Newsom advisor
\n
Alex Tourke, wants to resurrect the program by doing an end run in the
\n
legislature. Now every lawmaker from Siskyou to Imperial county can get a front row seat in
\n
the San Francisco political subculture. Conservatives who value local control and
\n
support the military are in a real bind.<\/p>\n
