There&#8217;s other news around the state, so let&#8217;s get to it<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.contracostatimes.com\/news\/ci_12830115?source=rss\">2 of the 3 largest BART unions<\/a> will vote on the contract offer today, while the third plans on waiting for some additional information.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calbuzz.com\/2009\/07\/why-conservatives-should-be-against-term-limits\/\">At CalBuzz, a termed out Republican Legislator<\/a> points out that there are negatives of term limits, even from a conservative standpoint. Well, I can&#8217;t imagine the flames he would get with that at the right-wing blogs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 After a report by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propublica.org\/feature\/when-caregivers-harm-california-problem-nurses-stay-on-job-710\">ProPublica and the LA Times<\/a> showed drastic failures in the investigations by the CA Nursing Board, Arnold <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-nursing-board14-2009jul14,0,5570676.story?track=rss\">cleaned house<\/a> and the Chair resigned.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Meg Whitman just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/static\/weblogs\/capitolalertlatest\/023819.html?mi_rss=Capitol%20Alert\">handed her campaign a $15 million dollar present<\/a> in the form of a personal check. &nbsp;She has obviously corraled the crucial &#8220;Meg Whitman&#8221; vote. &nbsp;As for the rest of the state&#8217;s 23 million voters, we&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/business\/story\/2023456.html?mi_rss=Business\">British finance guy<\/a> hasn&#8217;t bothered to look at the California constitution to see that bonds have a very high priority, so he rates them as a high risk of default. Never mind the fact that there is virtually no way that we could skip out on bond payments or that the federal government would let us default. &nbsp;That&#8217;s no reason to avoid gouging the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Cal State system <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/homepage\/story\/71673.html\">will not take new students<\/a> in the spring, to save money, part of what amounts to a lowering of enrollment by 40,000. &nbsp;This is an education nightmare for the state of California.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The City of Santa Clara apparently got a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2009\/07\/13\/MNFL18EMC5.DTL&#038;feed=rss.news\">pretty sweet deal<\/a> on the NFL&#8217;s SF 49ers stadium package. &nbsp;Nevertheless, Mayor Newsom and DiFi seem very interested in keeping the Niners in SF.
