{"id":9506,"date":"2009-07-28T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-28T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-07-28T03:43:36","modified_gmt":"2009-07-28T03:43:36","slug":"july-27-open-thread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calitics.com\/index.php\/2009\/07\/28\/july-27-open-thread\/","title":{"rendered":"July 27 Open Thread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>News from around the state:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 To say public power is a politically explosive topic in SF is a huge understatement. &nbsp;Today, PG&#038;E <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibabuzz.com\/politics\/2009\/07\/27\/pge-antes-up-to-oppose-local-energy-choice\/\">wades into it again with a new committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A small (126 members) band of Pomo Indians from Mendocino Country are trying to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressdemocrat.com\/article\/20090726\/articles\/907269979\">build a very large fancy casino in Richmond<\/a>. &nbsp;The City of Richmond supports the plan, but there are many who aren&#8217;t so enamored with the idea. There are a series of hoops left to jump through, so this is far from a done deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Henry Waxman and the House Energy and Commerce Committee have released <a href=\"http:\/\/energycommerce.house.gov\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;view=article&#038;id=1717:hr-3200-americas-affordable-health-choices-act-of-2009-markup-district-by-district&#038;catid=156:reports&#038;Itemid=55\">a district-by-district rundown<\/a> of how the House health care bill will impact every single district. &nbsp;The analysis &#8220;includes information on the impact of the legislation on small businesses, seniors in Medicare, health care providers, and the uninsured. It also includes an estimate of the impacts of the surtax that is used to pay for the legislation.&#8221; It&#8217;s a good resource for folks calling their Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Sign of the times: the Osteopathic Medical Board <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/static\/weblogs\/the_state_worker\/2009\/07\/you-know-the-states-in-a-budge.html?mi_atom=The%20State%20Worker\">cannot afford to buy toner<\/a> for their only copier. &nbsp;Once the real horror stories from this budget get out, this will be the least of our worries.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/static\/weblogs\/capitolalertlatest\/024195.html?mi_rss=Capitol%20Alert\">Meg Whitman gets another endorsement<\/a>, Bill Simon.
