This one was essentially a summary showing that DTS and Dems have gotten substantially more socially progressive, but haven&#8217;t changed a lick on Prop 13. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kqed.org\/capitalnotes\/2009\/08\/05\/more-left-more-right-bigger-gap\/\">John Myers<\/a> has more.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 LAPD Chief Bratton <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/local\/la-me-bratton6-2009aug06,0,4239123.story?track=rss\">has announced he is resigning<\/a> to return to New York to head a private security firm. &nbsp;Bratton has earned high marks for transforming the public image and output of the LAPD. &nbsp;He didn&#8217;t fix everything, but he took the department a pretty long way from the low point of Rodney King. &nbsp;It&#8217;s definitely <a href=\"http:\/\/yglesias.thinkprogress.org\/archives\/2009\/08\/william-bratton-steps-down-as-lapd-chief.php\">a loss for the city<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Pro-health care reform Blue Dog Mike Thompson (CA-01) <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2009\/08\/rep-mike-thompson-d-ca-town-hall-shouted-down-with-this-is-america-and-whats-wrong-with-profit.php\">got an earful from the teabaggers<\/a> in his district at a town hall meeting, with the loobyist-activated participants shouting him down to such a degree that the Napa Valley Register <a href=\"http:\/\/www.napavalleyregister.com\/articles\/2009\/08\/05\/opinion\/editorial\/doc4a7918305d01f722673520.txt\">blasted the disruptive protesters<\/a> in an op-ed. &nbsp;Meanwhile, the D-Trip <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2009\/08\/dccc-launches-new-phase-in-health-care-reform-fight-targeting-republicans.php\">is targeting several California Republicans<\/a> for their donations from the health care industry and their role in blocking reform.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesspundit.com\/10-reasons-people-hate-carly-fiorina\/\">Carly Fiorina<\/a> is making lots of noise in a bid to run for Senate. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/blogs\/nov05election\/detail?blogid=14&#038;entry_id=44948\">NRSC Chair John Cornyn was talking her up<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Arnold Schwarzenegger <a href=\"http:\/\/video.nytimes.com\/video\/2009\/07\/24\/us\/1247463630991\/an-interview-with-arnold-schwarzenegger.html\">granted an interview with the New York Times<\/a> that won&#8217;t earn him any friends in the Walt Disney Company, whose parks are populated with morbidly obese people, according to his account. &nbsp;Once again, the Governor goes above the heads of local media and to the national media who pay little attention to the reality of California. &nbsp;Maybe because all the local media has him <a href=\"http:\/\/www.californiaprogressreport.com\/2009\/08\/schwarzeneggers_30.html\">completely skunked out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 CA-10: John Garamendi, <a href=\"https:\/\/calitics.com\/diary\/9783\/ca10-an-interview-with-lt-gov-john-garamendi\">profiled here today<\/a> at Calitics, surveyed his district, but the poll questions got into the wrong hands. &nbsp;That&#8217;s because one of the survey subjects was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibabuzz.com\/politics\/2009\/08\/04\/cd10-garamendi-polls-the-district\/\">Mark DeSaulnier campaign manager Katie Merrill<\/a>. &nbsp;Since the poll was not for publication, some pretty revealing questions in there.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Steve Lopez doesn&#8217;t like the idea, but he&#8217;ll accept if he has to.
