SoCal ACTION ALERT: Fight Back the Supreme Court’s Strike Against Choice!
ALERT! The US Supreme Court has just delivered another blow to women’s reproductive rights. Earlier today, the court upheld the federal abortion ban that will prevent seriously ill women from terminating pregancies that threaten their health. This is a VERY FRIGHTENING DEVELOPMENT which throws women’s rights into complete limbo.
However, our local friends at Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties are NOT taking this lying down. They’re planning their next actions… AND THEY NEED OUR HELP! If you’re a progressive activist in Southern California, and if you care about women’s reproductive rights, then you need to follow me after the flip to find out how you can take action.
Here’s the email that I just got from my friend Serena at OC Planned Parenthood:
Dear Activists & Volunteers,
This morning the Supreme Court upheld the Federal Abortion Ban and let women’s health take a back seat to right-wing politics. At Planned Parenthood, we’re working hard to ensure that we can keep providing our patients with the best and safest health care possible under this dangerous law.
But we need your help…
Tomorrow, April 19th, from 10am 1pm, we’ll be assembling a HUGE mailing to alert our supports of this legal set-back and how we’re planning to respond. Please join us at our Administrative Offices in Orange for as long as you are able. In addition to assembling this mailing, I’ll give you an update on what this decision means, how it will affect our patients, and what we plan to do about it. We’ll also order lunch for those of you that are able to join us.
Please reply to this email ASAP to let me know if you’ll be available.
Thanks for all your support–and the website will be updated soon, so check www.pposbc.org for more info throughout the week.
To RSVP to join this emergency improptu action, please reply to Serena at [email protected]. We’ll need as many people as possible. If you can join me and other pro-choice activists tomorrow, I’m sure our friends at OC Planned Parenthood will definitely appreciate it.
Announcing the Charlie/Jerry Blograiser
(cross-posted in orange)
I am proud to announce it, but I need your help in coming up for a name for it.
This is a CA blogger production. Myself, sfbriancl (Brian Leubitz), withthelidoff (Lucas O’Conner) have been putting together a fabulous event to be held next week in San Diego, in conjunction with the CA Democratic Party Convention. There will be thousands of delegates, kossacks, bloggers, politicians, consultants and reporters. We figured we could convince a good crowd of them to show up at a local brew pubs and toss back a few pints with Jerry McNerney, Charlie Brown and the bloggers. I emailed staffers from each and they jumped at the chance. Thus a blograiser was born, with a lot of help from our man on the SD ground, Lucas, in securing a location.
Who: Charlie Brown, Jerry McNerney and friends
What: give $40 (split between the two) via ActBlue
When: 8:30 PM Friday April 27th
Where: Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Downtown San Diego
1157 Columbia Street – San Diego, CA 92101
Why: Cause good beer tastes better with politics
Doesn’t it look cool? BTW it is less than a mile from the convention center. You can walk it, or there is parking.
There will be some lovely appetizers provided by your blogging hosts.
All contributions will be processed on a special ActBlue page, but we can’t exactly have an ActBlue page, unless we have a fricken name. That’s where you come in… Propose a name. We will cut down to the top choices (as many as fit in a poll) and let you vote tomorrow.
P.S. For those not in attendance we have been talking with the wonderful Howie Klein about doing a fundraiser on the Blue America page in conjunction with the blograiser. Last I heard he had procured a really valuable prize to give away to one lucky donor. More to come on that later. For now we need names.
With Doolittle getting raided today and several Republicans gearing up to challenge Jerry these guys need our support.
Is Doolittle Throwing his Wife Under the Bus?
John Doolittle is generally considered to be one of the most corrupt politicians in the country and as the feds close in on him, what is his response?
Doolittle said, “My wife has been cooperating with the FBI and the Justice Department for almost three years and that cooperation is going to continue in the future. I support my wife 100 percent and fully expect that the truth will prevail.”
WTF? His wife is only under investigation because she is his wife — that is why this is a corruption probe. I can’t believe his posture, not only is Doolittle awful politically but he is a total asshole and is totally misleading the press.
Doolittle should resign — in shame — immediately.
