• I (Brian) love the Wire, so I really enjoyed this CalBuzz lesson to President Obama using Omar Little. Oh, indeed.

Brian Bilbray leads in cash in CA-50, but three democratic challengers for the seat aren’t doing too bad for themselves in the money department. Two-time challenger Francine Busby leads the Dems with $233,000. If she really wants to be competitive this time around she will need to make more of an effort to reach out beyond her base in Escondido.

LAX Commissioners are expected to approve expansion plans. The first new gates will open up in 2012, with the project expected to be completed the following year.

• The new federal policy to not pursue medical marijuana users and distributers that adhere to state law has the biggest impact right here in California. We have the most permissive medical marijuana regulations.

This is hilarious.  A side conspiracy to the Birthers is that Obama is secretly trying to bankrupt the US in order to, umm, bring about the rise of Kenya? Indonesia? That part isn’t clear, but it must be true. Just don’t pay any notice to the fact that it was Bush who approved the bank bailout.

Our Governor’s name has been bandied about for the MPAA gig, after former Rep. Dan Glickman announced he’ll be stepping down in 2010.

  1. if he can do for the mpaa what he’s done for California….I say sign him up. We can destroy DRM, DMCA and more in just a few years!

  2. Tracy Emblem is from Escondido.  Dave Roberts is from Solana Beach.  Francine Busby is from Cardiff (Encinitas).

Escondido is a place where Democrats could make up ground if the party decided to focus there.  If a Democrat is going to win in the 50th, they will need to put up a strong showing in more conservative areas like Escondido and Vista.

  3. which is unfortunate for those of us that live within the MCB Camp Pendleton, Vista, Oceanside area.  I agree that the Democrats could make inroads in Escondido, especially if they focused on Latino/Latina and young/new voters.  I used to teach in the Escondido area (until the budget made it untenable to the district to keep me employed), and IMHO these demographics are very low-hanging fruit in that area.  It should also be noted that Escondido has recently emerged as the leading candidate for a new football stadium in San Diego County for the Chargers and SDSU Aztecs (near the southeastern portion of the intersection of I-15 and SR-78.  This location is also proximal to the current “gang-injunction zones” that the City of Escondido has implemented to deal with the Diablo and Westside latino gangs.  The activities of these gangs impact the youth at all of the middle and high schools in Escondido any approach that works towards viable solutions to their activities will gain cache as well as potential voters.
