SF politics moves to Sacramento

The SF School Board has been debating JROTC now for a couple decades.  A few years

ago in light of the Iraq War and stories about how military recruitment targets the economically

disenfranchised and people of color — brought to a mass audience thanks to Michael

Moore’s “911” — the school board voted to phase it out.

It will officially end this June.

But Assemblyman Fiona Ma, now advised by WIllie Brown-Gavin Newsom advisor

Alex Tourke, wants to resurrect the program by doing an end run in the

legislature.   Now every lawmaker from Siskyou to Imperial county can get a front row seat in

the San Francisco political subculture.  Conservatives who value local control and

support the military are in a real bind.
