Governor Declares a State of Emergency over the Swine Flu

The Governor has raised the alarm on this whole swine flu thing:

Schwarzenegger’s proclamation on Tuesday sets in motion a series of administrative actions, including ordering all agencies to coordinate with public health officials as needed.

The action also suspends noncompetitive bidding for contracts needed to respond to the outbreak and waives certification requirements for laboratories involved in the testing. (KSBW 4/28/09)

It still appears that nobody in California has died of the swine flu, with the suspected cases returning negative.  The order essentially allows the state to skip a few hoops as they try to isolate any cases of the swine flu.

Hey, maybe all of those teachers at my temple’s sunday school had a point about avoiding hanging out with pigs. Perhaps those kosher rules served a purpose back in the day.
