Of all the candidates running in November, I think Kamala Harris is my favorite. In a world that is more and more polorized into ‘us’ and ‘them’, she brings clarity to the principle that the Constitution is not a set of rights for ‘us’ and conveniences for ‘them’ (which can be accepted or denied at a whim). She looks at constitutional rights like sunshine that comes to the rich and the poor, the good and the bad, and to people of every color and religion. The sun doesn’t care who you are or what you look like–it’s going to shine on you and so should the constitution.
Harris has that clear sense of the constitution without seeming robotic about it. With her it’s fairness for everyone which comes off looking like humanity and compassion, but is really a firm grip on the Constitution.
