Woolsey to Make Announcement Next Week

Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey has long been rumored to be a possible retirement.  No matter how the lines are drawn, the Marin-Sonoma centered seat will be a safe Democratic seat.  She criticized the draft maps for removing Santa Rosa from the Marin-Sonoma based district that she represents.  In fact, she was really the most outspoken elected official on the maps.  The criticism rose a few eyebrows.

So, with that speculation running high, I got a little message in my inbox today:

WOOLSEY ANNOUNCEMENT

Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma), joined by Rep. Barbara Lee and friends and

family, will make an announcement at her home next Monday.

TIME: Monday, June 27, 2011 3:00pm

We’ll keep you updated with more details next week.  Rep. Woolsey has always been an outstanding champion of progressive goals. If she does choose to retire, we must hope for a leader with dedication as strong as hers.

  1. Lynn Woolsey has, throughout her tenure in Congress and before, been a staunch champion of zero growth policies and his consistently sided with every nimby group fighting development in her district.  Actions have consequences.  If you don’t want people moving into your district you run the risk of the district disappearing.

  2. Well, she’s been a good vote on the liberal checklist. But in terms of leadership, not so much. I can’t think of a bill she wrote that became law, which is disappointing, because CA-6 is one of the most progressive districts in the country.

  3. If you don’t think that an ardent anti-development, pro open space, member of Congress has no influence on development patterns in her district you don’t know your ass from your elbow.
