Update on Migration Pattern Hysteria

From the comments on yesterday’s post about demographics, an interesting article from the LA Times explaining some of these shifts. California, like New York a century ago, is a “gateway” state, where people come when they immigrate and then transition to other communities.

“People see that so many people are leaving the state, and they think ‘oh, it’s because California business is bad,’ ” said Bill Schooling, chief of demographics research for the state Department of Finance. “It’s more that California, particularly with counties like L.A., is a huge gateway state.” …

Schooling noted that much of the state’s population growth was concentrated in coastal counties, where people tend to be younger and more mobile. Economists also said that job growth has been much stronger along the coast, particularly with growth in foreign trade, technology and tourism.

Ironic, isn’t it? The Coast subsidizes the rest of the state, and votes in favor of a more sustainable government. Yet the Coast is where the economy, and the growth, is strongest. Did California suffer right along with the nation during the Great Recession? Yes, of course. However, we’re also leading the nation forward.

  1. I’m here to tell ya, there’s a lot at work in all of this unemployment and employment stuff.

If yer post 50 years of age, since 2004 or so, when The Valley jobs sitches collapsed and took out home sales, home building, trucking, materials supplies sales, wiped out restaurants, barbers, hair salons, bars, music venues, and more . . . causing cut backs in state, county and city government jobs, and in general KILLIN us.

Well, then you have likely been OUT of jobs since then.

Never mind wage decreases, if you DID get work.

However, the state is gonna be hiring fast and hard, already is in some areas for the ACA Medicaid programs, and will be hiring more and harder as the 2/3rd’s majority kicks in.

Taxes will be levied on the rich, further enrichening state coffers, and the more people that get to work, the more taxes will be generated as we begin to repair this state.

But for damn dawg’s sake, I sure hope the 50+ citizens who NEED AND WANT TO WORK, get jobs, cuz that medical care and those taxes and those dollars spent on goods and services alone will boost us.

I’m one of them folks. I’m looking forward to getting back to work after a few years. With the State. And I’ll be in service to the people of the great state of CA, with great verve.

As CA goes, so goes the nation, it’s still true.

Thanks for read, there’s a lot to be hopeful for, here in NorCal, and So Cal.
