I am asking for your vote

(Calitics promotes diaries from candidates and elected officials. – promoted by Brian Leubitz)

Dear Friends,

The opportunity to serve is not an entitlement. Our country can only move forward when elected leaders work hard to continue to earn the support of the people they serve and fight for the issues and causes that matter deeply to our communities. I am no different.

During my time in Congress I have pushed for change, fought hard to create jobs, supported sweeping health care reform with a public option, and worked tirelessly to protect our pristine coastline.

I am asking for your vote on June 8 in the Democratic Primary to continue the work I’ve set out to do.

EDIT By Brian: More (including a video) over the flip.

I recently introduced bipartisan legislation that will establish efficiency standards for new outdoor light fixtures and will significantly reduce carbon emissions – the equivalent of taking 3 to 5.4 million cars off the road by 2030 and save up to $5.1 billion a year.

I hope you will watch the short video above and share it with your friends and family.

Now is a time of extraordinary importance for our country and your vote makes a difference.

This year alone, we have fought back against a terrible recession and passed sweeping heath care reform legislation that had been trapped in Washington for over 70 years. We are on the verge of creating a lasting progressive majority that will tackle climate crises, reform Wall Street and rebuild our economy, but I need your vote to help make it all a reality.

I hope that I have earned your support and I am asking for your vote in the Democratic Primary on June 8.

I invite you to watch the above video and to share it with your friends and family.

  1. Since Jane isn’t running in My district, I hope She does ok in Her district. I wish Her Good Luck too.

  2. UTLA’s House of Reps endorsed the candidacy of Harman’s opponent, teacher Marcy Winograd, this evening. Saying that her views more closely matched those of UTLA, the vote went through quickly and with no opposition. Go to winogradforcongress.com for more info.

For those who MISSED the one semi-debate of these two candidates, it happened at the California Democratic Party’s recent convention at the Progressive Caucus. There, before our eyes, Harman attempted to morph into a “progressive.” Made fun of by Norman Solomon, she was told she COULD have JOINED the Congressional Progressive Caucus — but of course, that would be IN CONFLICT with her prime position in the BLUE DOG CAUCUS…almost a founding member.

While Harman now claims to be some sort of healthcare champ…that really doesn’t cut it. She was late (after Marcy entered the race) and weak. And she wasn’t a lead sponsor on anything. And there IS NO PUBLIC OPTION. There WAS NO consideration of Single Payer. She was NOT on the page to ensure Californians the right to have our own healthcare plan by supporting the Kucinich amendment.

Let’s not forget that it was JANE who helped give us FOUR MORE YEARS of Bush/Cheney when she went to the NY Times and got them to hold the story about the warrantless wiretaps. I also see no mention of her own wiretapped conversations with the Israeli operatives who were trying to ensure that their compatriots would not be prosecuted by our Justice Dept (and they weren’t). No investigation of that one either.

Winograd is a strong proponent of single payer healthcare and will fight to get back the civil liberties that have been stripped away these last years. She’s a teacher who understands EDUCATION issues like few now in Congress. And she’ll be a REAL PROGRESSIVE and vote NO on more war funding.

This is NOT what will happen if warmonger Harman returns to Congress…it will be billions upon billions more going to the war profiteers who are her real constituents. The tab will be passed on to our children’s children…that is, if the world still exists after global warming hits because she’s done NOTHING to address that issue either.///

  3. 1) That I don’t have a job so I can afford to send a contribution to Marcy Winograd; and,

    2) That I don’t live in Congresswoman Harman’s district, so I could vote for Marcy Winograd.

  4. I’m Marcy Winograd and I agree that the opportunity to serve is not an entitlement.  That’s why when Congress debates health care or the wars or the foreclosure crisis, I will take the debate to my district with town halls and meetings.  The people are entitled to participate in a national debate. Unfortunately, my opponent was one of the few in southern California who failed to hold one town hall during the epic health care debate. Our Democratic district deserves a real Democrat as its representative, not someone beholden to big banks, Wall Street, or the weapons industry.

That’s why I’m running for Congress to replace Jane Harman in California’s 36th District. Please see my entire Calitics diary post titled Marcy Winograd Asks For Your Vote – For Real Change click here:  http://calitics.com/diary/

  5. and still am DTS.  You deserve to lose badly, Ms. Harman, for sacrificing our civil liberties as you did.

  6. If Ms Harmon wants our support, she should consider supporting us rather than the Israeli people, especially the Zionists. And don’t give me this dual loyalties line.  Dual loyalties is just a euphemism for disloyalty. Israel’s policies in the east bank are costing us money and lives. And coming in to the governor’s race just split the vote v Checchi who could have won and we’d all be in better shape right now.  Ms. Harmon is a great woman, but strategic and loyal she is not.  Not fit for Congress.
