BRIEFING

For almost a year now, I have been posting on this forum and have interacted with you. Over this time, with some of you, I have developed tension. I’m getting tired of it. I would like for everyone to get all problems they have with anyone out on the table now and get it resolved. I’ll go first, follow me over the flip

I will say off the bat that with Brian, atdleft, modem, spit, and wu ming, we have our disagreements, but I don’t really have any problems with you. You state your stuff well, keep it charitable, and stay off the personal attacks. My only request to those of you it applies to, is to at least directly counter the points I make if you disagree or if they end up not being factually correct.

Now for the other regular members, I’m going to be totally open here: jsw, Lucas, Robert, and David

jsw – If you want examples of any of these I can give them to you. But for now, I’ll just say that time and time again you have given me baseless personal attacks, and false dilemmas. My suggestion for the future is to ask yourself, before posting, “is this attack issue-based? Is it about the issue and not the person?” If the answer to both of those is yes, then I’m probably fine with it.

Another problem I have is you have presented false dilemma, after false dilemma, after false dilemma to me. Again, if you want examples I can give them to you. Just remember that every box has 12 sides, not 4 (that’s a square), and not 6 (that’s a cube).

Case in point to a box having 12 sides: lethal injection and the firing squad are on the same side of the life and death debate. However, they are on opposite sides of the humane vs. inhumane debate. No two views in and of themselves contradict one another. I can see some of you saying that the death penalty is not humane. I understand where you’re coming from, and I’m sure you still get my point

Lucas – I like that you are logical. Our logic definitely does not think the same, but you are definitely logical. You provide counter-logic to stuff I say and I appreciate that. Winning is not the goal of debating, but rather inquiry and coming to a conclusion are. I cannot think of any baseless personal attacks you’ve done to me off the top of my head, but my intuition is telling me that you have. If you haven’t, I apologize

Robert – I have issues of personal attacks from you. I could probably find them if I searched, since I distinctly remember feeling personally attacked with your name below. I don’t have them off the top of my head though. I’ll give you the same advice I gave jsw, ask yourself, before posting, “is this attack issue-based? Is it about the issue and not the person?” If the answer to both of those is yes, then I’m probably fine with it

Also, I’ve also called you out for this when it has applied: misrepresenting me to the extent of making me seem stupid and easily refutable. Please respond to what I say, not the most extreme form of what I said

David – I say the same as I said for Robert

I mean everything here constructively, and I know you guys have stuff with me to get out on the table, and I’d like to hear it.
