(CA 45) Rep. Mary Bono Poised to Become First Lady

(xposted from mydesert.com)

Local political activists in Palm Springs and in the Coachella Valley have long been critical of Rep. Mary Bono for her absentee status.  It seems apparent that Bono only comes to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley now to raise money.  Otherwise, where is she?  Florida?  She’s certainly not on the floor of the House of Representatives.  For fuck sake (no pun intended), she was galavanting around Florida rather than voting to override President Bush’s veto of SCHIP.

Now, locals are discussing Bono’s penchant for social climbing and manipulation in quickly transforming and transitioning from one marriage (Baxely), to the next (Palm Springs Mayor Sonny Bono), and to the next (Rep. Connie Mack IV, R-FL) as the situation demanded.  Amazing how many marriages these so-called family values candidates can have, right Rudy?

Yours truly identified and related to the local progressive Democratic activists at Palm Springs’ Village Fest what Bono’s agenda appears to be.  (1) Continue to date Rep. Mack IV, R-FL.  (2) Marry Mack .  (3) Encourage Mack to run for Sen. Bob Graham’s seat when he retires (bear in mind that Mack’s father was a Senator in FL and has great name recognition in FL and in the US).  (4) Encourage Mack to then run for the Presidency.  (5) Become First Lady.

Hillary has absolutely nothing on Baxely Bono Mack IV.  Just sayin’.

Palm Springs Village Fest – December 13, 2007

December 13, 2007 – Palm Springs Village Fest Voter Registration and Candidate Information Tabling at Palm Canyon & Arenas, Palm Springs, CA, Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (Adult beverages enjoyed thereafter at the local pubs).

Very chilly desert nights and very hot progressive Democrats feted throngs of locals, visitors, and prospective voters.

The Democratic clubs were represented as usual with Desert Stonewall Democrats (DSD) staffing one table thanks to George Zander, President of DSD, Bob Silverman, Treasurer of DSD, and Tracy Turner, Vets for Peace.  (Full disclosure: BlueBeaumontBoyz iz a member of DSD.)  Eleanor Jackson staffed the table of the Democrats of the Desert.

Greg Rodriguez made an unexpected visit to the Registration and Candidate Information tabling with his two boys in tow.  Rodriguez is an activist with the Hillary Clinton for President campaign, Yes on Measure E School Bond Issue, and is expected to run for school board in the Palm Springs Unified School District.  But, more importantly, the boys were a hit as usual with the Democrats.  One wanted to know why the stop lights were not functioning on Palm Canyon.  BlueBeaumontBoyz suggested that he bring it up to Caltrans and to the local Department of Transportation (the lights are non-functioning during Village Fest).  Rodriguez overheard and cautioned that the boys were likely to vocalize their concerns at the next City Council meeting.  Two more articulate and victorious Democratic candidates in the making, we are sure.

Rob Simmons, member of the Palm Springs Airport Commission and an activist with the Barack Obama for President campaign also joined the DSD attendees in a spirited discussion re the current Presidential campaign and the early caucus and primary states.  Richard Oberhaus, campaign manager of the Greg Pettis for 80th Assembly District campaign discussed the progress of the campaign, upcoming endorsements, and Pettis’ amazing 50th Birthday celebration on Sunday in Cathedral City.

Rodriguez, Simmons, and Oberhaus discussed the upcoming January 3, 2008, Iowa Caucus viewing party planned for Look in Palm Springs.  More details to follow.

More exciting below the flip…

Turner, Vets for Peace, discussed Thursday’s demonstration against the ongoing occupation of Iraq and the petitions that Vets for Peace and others delivered to the office of Mary Bono, absentee Congresswoman in the 45th Congressional District.  Activists discussed Bono’s penchant for social climbing and manipulation in quickly transitioning from one significant to the next as the situation demanded.  Yours truly identified and related Bono’s apparent agenda.  (1) Continue to date Rep. Connie Mack, R-FL.  (2) Marry Rep. Mack.  (3) Encourage Mack to run for Sen. Bob Graham’s seat when he retires (bear in mind that Mack’s father was a Senator in FL and has great name recognition in FL and in the US).  (4) Encourage Sen. Mack to run for the Presidency.  (5) Become First Lady.  Just sayin’.

Bob Morris and yours truly, staffed the John Edwards for President table for the Palm Springs for Edwards One Corps Chapter.  We distributed position papers from the John Edwards for President campaign, provided campaign buttons and bumper stickers, signed up volunteers for the Edwards for President Campaign, and solicited voters to register to vote.  We discussed Edward’s strong grassroots support in Iowa and expectations for a surprisingly strong showing on January 3.

Other Democratic Party activists staffed tables for the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Barack Obama campaign.  One of the Obama volunteers was Dave Hunsicker, candidate for the CA-45 Congressional seat now held by Rep. Mary Bozo.  Hunsicker discussed Bono’s status as carpetbagger Congresswoman as her loyalties now clearly lie in Florida rather than in the Coachella Valley.

We registered two more voters last night!  Two more dents in the discredited and crumbling theofascist regime in mid-Riverside County.  Remember, Democrats already outnumber Repugnants in the CA 80th Assembly District by 13,000.  And, Bonnie Garcia barely beat a poorly organized, poorly funded opponent in the last election.  And, now she is termed out.

Zander, Silverman, Turner, Oberhaus, and yours truly attended the Unofficial Drinking Liberally (UODL) after-party at Bongo Johnny’s, Hunter’s Video Bar, and Street Bar!  Douglas, aka Eve when perpetually surfing Arenas as a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, animatedly discussed her plans to upgrade the wine menu at BJ’s.  Very hot bartender Paul and equally hot, off-duty bartender, Frank, beckoned and entertained us on the patio of Street Bar.  George and yours truly just had to purchase the new Street Bar 2008 Calendar with pictures of the hot, local bartenders including Frank.  Frank graceously signed each purchase.  Oh, be Frank with me.  Oh, that we were single.  Troy, barback at Hunter’s discussed the developing gay scene in Beaumont and Banning and the San Gorgoino Pass.  Speaking of passes.  The evils of UODL Thursday nights.  Just ask the rest of the revellers.

Ever celebrating the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs turning deeper shades of blue!

(CA-45) Mary Bono, Sometimes-CA: Voting Record During Current Congress

According to the Washington Post, Rep. Mary Bono, Sometimes-45, missed 66 votes during the current Congress.  See how Bono voted on key votes — the most important bills, nominations and resolutions that have come before Congress, as determined by washingtonpost.com.

Mary Bono has missed 66 votes (5.9%) during the current Congress.  See a list of her missed votes since 1991.

Bono has voted with the Repugnant leadership and her party 89.3% of the time during the current Congress.  However, this percentage does not include the 66 votes during the current Congress where Bono voted “Not Voting.”  Here is a list of Bono’s votes that were against the Repugnant position since 1991.  Here is a list of the percentage of votes on which a Representative agrees with the position taken by a majority of his or her party members during the 110th Congress.  The scores do not include missed votes.  All lawmakers who served during this congress are included.

More below the flip…

Bono’s allegiance to the Repugnant party (89.3%) is only exceeded by the following members of her party:

  • Rep. Charles Norwood (R-GA) – District 10 – 100%
  • Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA) – District 2 – 95.2%
  • Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK) – District 5 – 95.1%

(CA-45) Mary Bono, Sometimes-CA: More Missed Votes

Mary Bozo…er…Bono, Sometimes Congresswoman in the CA-45, has apparently missed some more votes on the floor of the House of Representatives.  Guess that she was too busy getting support from Connie Mack, R-FL, to vote on these important bills.\

I just received this summary from Jim Reynolds, political activist involved in the Desert Stonewall Democrats.  The information that Jim provided is originally from The Nation.

(CA-45) Mary Bono, Sometimes-CA: Missed Votes

Mary Bono, sometime Congresswoman for the CA-45 Congressional District has been renowned for her absentee voting system.  No, I do not mean that she has developed a better method for Vote By Mail for Nationwide distribution.  Rather, Bono has identified a way to marginally represent her Riverside County District by masking her many missed procedural and bill votes.  Seems that Bono did not get the memo from Nancy Pelosi, D-CA regarding increasing the hours of the Congressional work week.  Also, it seems that Bono is much more interested in registering herself on Connie Mack, R-FL, than registering her opinion on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

To summarize, Bono obviously takes the same amount of vacation time that the rest of the Congress takes during Congressional recesses.  In addition, Bono obviously feels it necessary to take additional time.  Bono took addional vacation time during the Congressional work week of March 5-9, 2007, and again during the work week of June 6-9, 2006.  I fathom that Bono needs more than average amount of downtime from her strenuous voting schedule.

Being her employer, I do not recall that Bono ever provided me with a medical excuse or explanation as to why she takes so much time off.  As a former supervisor at one of the biggest retail concerns in the country, if someone kept Bono’s work schedule, I would have to give the requisite reprimands and then suspension and then termination.  At present, I am a sole practitioner.  I do not take this much time off, and I work for myself!!!  Jesus!!!

Bono missed 43 votes in 2007, 38 in 2006, and 19 in 2005.  Seems that as the Republican spirits declined during 2005 – 2006, so did Bono’s.  Or maybe she just became busier trying to justify herself to her constituents?  Also, please note how often during the corrupt Republican regime in the House, Bono missed days on Tuesdays (the first day of their work week) and Thursdays (the last day of their three-day work work)!!!  In my profession, the issue of substance abuse is considered when employees consistently miss the first day of the work week.  In politics, as with Fred Thompson, the alternative hypothesis is laziness.

Paul Clay, Candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives CA-45 has indicated that he will raise voters’ expectations rather than lower them, will vote rather than miss votes on the floor, and will adequately represent the interests of all peoples of the Coachella Valley rather than the monied few.

The following is a list from The Washington Post of Missed Votes by Mary Bono/Congress Votes Database/

Where’s the funding: Bush and Bono Lied Before, Will They Do It Again?

This is my Letter to the Editor in the Desert Sun, published on November 1, 2007:

There has been a pattern with President Bush and Rep. Mary Bono, one of neglect and incompetence. It is their attempt to manage government by downsizing. Eliminating and reducing government services, including fire services, is ill-conceived and absent of good judgment. It is a pattern begun with Sept. 11 and extends through the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

In Southern California, fire season is not news. In fact, it is planned on the calendar months in advance, and the news media informs the public of the beginning and ending of the fire season.

The fact that up to 50 percent of the National Guard and its equipment was not available for an expected disaster is more of the pattern of neglect and ineptitude of the Bush administration. And, Bono has been a rubber stamp for the administration’s plan to divert the Guard to Iraq and to underfund the fire services.

Bush and Bono promised New Yorkers billions in aid following Sept. 11 and failed to deliver. Bush and Bono promised New Orleans residents billions in aid and have yet to deliver.

Now, Bush and Bono have promised Southern California billions in aid. It’s a pattern of incompetence and false promises.
